Michael Baker

Michael Baker has been involved in the financial security markets for more than 28 years. His introduction to the securities industry was by trading his own capital, (the result of a successful business sale).

Mike entered the securities business by joining Paine Webber as an account executive in 1983.  His work at Paine Webber led to his moving to Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette as a Vice President.  Following 2 years at Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette he joined Bear Stearns.  Mike spent the next 18 years at Bear Stearns rising to the position as Principal Managing Director.   He retired from Bear Stearns in 2007.

At Bear Stearns Mike served the fixed income needs of fund managers, mortgage REITs, banks, insurance companies, and municipalities.  His expertise extends to all areas of fixed income from underwriting, securitization, analysis, trading and portfolio construction.

Mike joined Sweetwater Investments April 2007 in the capacity of Principal Managing Director, to bring a fixed income expertise to the firm.

Mike attended Evergreen State University to be followed by 8 years of participation in the Bearing Sea commercial king crab industry as a vessel captain. To this date Mike maintains an active 1600 ton US Coastguard Masters license upon all oceans.  An avid outdoorsman Mike is an expert offshore sailor and competitive alpine snow skier.  Mike’s offshore sailing experience over the last 35 years has involved the ownership of sailing yachts ranging in size from 38 feet to 75 feet.  Currently Mike owns and captains the 42 foot  cutter rigged sloop 'Ventana’ hailing out of Elliot Bay Marina in Seattle.
